Cellar Release from Les Valseuses (Jura)
There’s nowhere quite as beautiful as the fairytale place that is Les Planches-prés-Arbois with its stunning waterfall (recently designated a UNESCO World Heritage site), towering Jurassic limestone cliffs, and rolling green hills. Amid this breathtaking scenery, tucked away along a country road, in an 18th century hospice, is another Jura delight: Antoine and Julia of Les Valseuses.
The pair have been residents here for 7 years now and not a year goes by that they do not have some new development, whether it be in their own vineyards or a further refurbishment of their ancient home.
On a visit last month, we had the pleasure of walking through their own vineyard, located on a steep slope in a deep ravine just minutes from their house. A dense co-plantation of ancient Jurassien varieties, the south-facing slope is worked only by horse and, after planting three years ago, the vines have been closely cared for and have shown steady growth.
Returning to their home, we were treated to a sumptuous dinner of baked Mont d’Or and Morteau sausage, accompanied by bottles from Antoine and Julia’s cellar. What followed was a journey through their production, crafted from grapes harvested across France, including the Jura, with a consistent focus on whole-bunch macerations often extending over many months, creating singular wines unlike anything we have tasted elsewhere.
Whilst enjoyable in their youth, these are wines that only improve with time in bottle and so it’s with great pleasure we can offer a cellar release on the below cuvées.
The new releases are now available to drink in or take away at Cadet, or for home delivery in our online shop.
