Akane no Oka

Jardins de la Martiniere (Loire)
Cabernet Franc • 2019

Fruit from 30 year old vines planted at the bottom of a south-east facing slope with clay soils. In reference to the stunning view from this particular hillside parcel, the cuvée name Akane no Oka translates from Japanese as "the sun setting over the hill". The fruit was macerated in whole bunches for 10 days with a week of pigéage once a day. After élevage in barrique for one year, the wine was moved to rest in cuve for another four years before bottling in late 2024. A lighter expression of the grape with floral aromatics, bright red fruits, and a haunting earthy finish.
