New Arrivals from Damien Bureau
Based in Champ-sur-Layon for nearly 2 decades, Damien has garnered a reputation as one of the most respected vignerons in Anjou. Starting in the early 2000’s, his journey as a winemaker began with stints in vineyards around France including a couple of small domaines in Burgundy. However it wasn’t until a meeting with Sebastien Dervieux in 2006 that he fully committed to one region, taking root in Anjou after Babass lent him a parcel of Chenin Blanc to make his first cuvée, the pétillant ‘Saperlipopet’.
Following this, Damien worked for others in the area while gradually collecting a few more small parcels around his village. He now farms a total of 4 hectares, planted primarily with Pineau d’Aunis, Chenin Blanc, and Grolleau. Until last year, he also ran one of the Loire’s most celebrated natural wine fairs, Les Anonymes. Now he devotes himself entirely to his own production, focusing on perfecting his small output without compromise.
In the cellar, Damien uses a hydraulic press for slow pressing, and primarily fiberglass tanks for fermentation and élevage. The few barrels he works with are reserved exclusively for ageing his sweet Chenin Blanc cuvées, which he makes only when the conditions allow.
Despite difficult vintages, he continues to release wines that are decidedly his own with a pleasantly understated elegance. They do not adhere to any trend or stylistic bent, he simply extracts the best expression of the grape as each vintage dictates through the ever-changing weather and climate. We are extremely pleased to import his newly arrived 2023 vintage to the UK.
The new releases are now available to drink in or take away at Cadet, or for home delivery in our online shop.
