New Arrivals from Karnage
We met Stéphane Planche a few years ago when travelling through Arbois. The warm hospitality in his iconic wine shop, Les Jardins de St Vincent, is legendary, and if you catch him on a good day, there is no telling what treasures he will unearth from his magnificent cellar. Over his 20 years plus working as a sommelier Stéphane has made endless contacts and had dabbled with winemaking numerous times, first in collaboration with Alice Bouvot of Domaine de L’Octavin, then with Jean-Marc Brignot and Sébastien Morin, and most recently with Charles Dagand, with whom he started Karnage. Since last year Charles has taken a step back from winemaking in Jura and so Stéphane now runs the project on his own.
Sourcing fruit from around the Jura region and as far as Limoux in Languedoc, there are no boundaries to what can come from Stéphane’s cellar. In the most recent vintage, he has harvested from Jocelyne et Gérald Oustric of Le Mazel, Patrick Geiger of the Bas-Rhine region of Aslace, and Vincent Lafage of Domaine de Salicares in Rousillon. His winemaking style favours light infusion-style macerations, finding just the right harmony between perfumed aromatics, vibrant fruit and subtle tannins for each grape variety.
The resulting wines bear the hallmark of decades of experience spent in the company of winemakers across the world. Stéphane feels unburdened by the traditions of the region, instead working by intuition after harvesting to create pure and vibrant wines with endless character that beg to be drunk.
The new releases are now available to drink in or take away at Cadet, or for home delivery in our online shop.
